Challenge
I needed to design a system that could detect hazardous conditions (gas, smoke, heat) in real-time and respond instantly while ensuring secure access control and remote monitoring. Integration with the cloud and hardware reliability under fluctuating conditions were key technical challenges.
Goal
1. Enhance Workplace Safety I aimed to monitor hazardous environmental conditions such as gas leaks, smoke, temperature spikes, and humidity to prevent accidents in real-time. 2. Enable Real-Time Alerts and Automation I wanted the system to trigger instant alerts (visual/audio or digital) and activate safety responses like turning off lights, restricting access, or notifying administrators when thresholds are exceeded. 3. Secure Access Control I integrated fingerprint-based authentication to ensure that only authorized personnel could access sensitive zones or the system interface. 4. Provide Remote Monitoring via Web Dashboard I designed a cloud-connected dashboard to display live sensor data, access logs, and system status, allowing remote monitoring and decision-making. 5. Archive Environmental & Access Logs for Auditing The system stores timestamped data in the cloud (via Google Sheets), allowing review of historical trends and incident investigation. 6. Support Scalable Deployment in Industrial Settings The architecture is modular, allowing expansion to multiple sensors or facilities with minimal changes—suitable for larger industrial environments. 7. Minimize Manual Supervision By automating safety checks and logging, the system reduces human error and improves operational efficiency.
Result
I built the system using Python, sensors, and microcontrollers for real-time data collection. I implemented Google Sheets + Apps Script for cloud logging and retrieval. I developed a responsive web dashboard with Chart.js and Bootstrap for live data visualization. I integrated fingerprint-based access control and automated lighting for safety. The system accurately monitored risks and improved situational awareness in a simulated industrial setup.
